Summer might be drawing to a close, but that doesn’t mean we have to be confined to our homes – there’s still plenty of outdoor fun going on at Nene Park this September. Find out more below.

 

Mindfulness in the Park – Saturday 15th September

The peaceful, natural setting of Nene Park is the perfect place to practice mindfulness, a method that can help you to handle the everyday pressures you may encounter in life. At this meetup at the Lakeside centre next to Lakeside Kitchen & Bar, you can learn more about mindfulness and get some hands on experience of practical techniques.

Alzheimer’s Society Memory Walk – Sunday 16th September

Choose between a shorter and longer route for this walk past the wonderful lakes, fields and woodlands in Nene Park. The short option is across flat paths and is accessible for wheelchairs. The longer 6km route is across open fields and woodland areas, so wellies and walking boots are required.

BSL Guided Walk with a Ranger – Friday 21st September

A guided walk with Ranger Ian Lowe, who will be accompanied by a British Sign Language interpreter. The 4 mile route around Ferry Meadows will take you past points of interest at the park, with Ian on hand to answer any questions you may have.

Time: 10:30 – 12:00

Bringing Nature Closer, Friday 21st September

Get up close to some of the amazing wildlife that calls Nene Park home, including wading and migratory birds. This exciting event will be led by Chris Park.

Time: 13:30

Where: Ferry Meadows Visitor Centre

 

Apple Press – Sunday 23rd September

Learn how to preserve apples and other tree fruits, then process them to make juice, cider, vinegar, wine, chutney and more. This fascinating session is perfect if you own a fruit tree in your garden. Try samples and get hands on experience using our preserving and processing equipment.

Time: 10:30 – 12:30 and 13:30 – 15:30

Ganesh Visarjan, Sunday 23rd September

This vibrant celebration sees members of the Bharat Hindu Samaj Hindu Community Centre bid farewell to the Hindu God Ganesh. Festivities start at around 14:00, so expect the park to be busy – and very colourful – from this time onwards.

Nature Tots – Monday 24th September

Nature themed fun for toddlers. This monthly event, includes messy craft activity, outdoor exploration and story and song time.

Family & Friends Volunteering – Sunday 30th September

Do you love being at Ferry Meadows? Come and help out the Rangers with the up keep of the park at this volunteering event. Tools, training and a beautiful outdoor environment are all provided! Everybody welcome – children, grandparents, friends and anyone else you can think of.

Whatever you decide to do at the park in September, Lakeside Kitchen & Bar and Ferry Meadows Café will be on hand to provide you with much needed refreshments.
