While buying a gift for Valentine’s Day can sometimes be a bit of a minefield, treating your dog on National Love Your Pet Day couldn’t be more straightforward. The celebration, which falls on 20th February, is the perfect chance to show your four-legged friend just how much you love them with walk around Ferry Meadows.

Dog Walking in Ferry Meadows

Ferry Meadows is a veritable paradise for dogs.

The park comprises numerous open green spaces as well as three large lakes, each one perfect for an impromptu splash. On the huge expanse of Coney Meadow meanwhile, you’ll find some exciting dog-friendly equipment, where your canine companion can practice their agility by leaping through tires and jumping on platforms.

Routes

Ferry Meadows maintains a very liberal stance on leads, meaning that dogs are welcome to explore almost every inch of the park on their own. So if you’re out rambling with your furry friend you’re free to meander through the natural haven forging your own route as you go.

Of course, if you fancy following a designated path, Ferry Meadows has plenty of these too, including the Bluebell, Ham Mere, Wildflower and Gunwade trails – the last of which passes right by Lakeside. The routes measure between two and four kilometres and pass over mostly paved ground, so are suitable for both wheelchairs and pushchairs.

A little more adventurous is the Riverside trail. This route incorporates sections of boardwalk and some muddy paths, so boots with decent grip are a good idea.

To find out more about the routes at Ferry Meadows, you can buy a pocket size OS map for £2.99 from the Visitor Centre, next to Ferry Meadows Café. You can also download a map of the park here.

Lakeside and Ferry Meadows Café

At Lakeside and Ferry Meadows Café, we’re huge fans of dogs and do our best to accommodate four-legged visitors of all shapes and sizes. We provide water bowls at both venues and have sheltered outdoor seating. At Lakeside, dogs can even sit inside thanks to our cosy conservatory.

Conditions at our venues aren’t bad for humans either! Both offer great views of the park, along with a wide range of delicious hot and cold food and drink. At Lakeside we have also recently launched a vegan range of dishes, click on the following link to see our full menu.

So if you’re out and about with your dog, please drop in to say hello!
