This half-term, Nene Park is putting on an action-packed autumn festival, including a few spooktacular Halloween events. Continue reading to find out what’s on.

Holiday Trail

Every day during half-term, 10am – 3:30pm

Collect a trail sheet from the Visitor Centre located next to Ferry Meadows Café and hunt for clues as you walk around Ferry Meadows. Return to the Visitor Centre to claim your prize.

£1 per sheet, no need to book for this drop-in event.

 

Charming Worms

Monday 21 October, 10:30am and 1:30pm

Meet at the Discovery Den to find out more about worms and have a go at charming these amazing creatures to the surface. Then make a wormery to take home with you. Suitable for children aged three and above.

£3 per child, book online.

 

Fentons Herbology

Tuesday 22 October, 10am and 1pm

An autumn workshop with a medical herbalist, who’ll introduce you to the plants and foods that can get you through winter in tip top condition!

You’ll discover how to keep your immune system in peak condition, taste herbal tinctures, teas and powders and discover the natural remedies that can help you if the bugs do get a hold of you!

For everyone aged 16 years and above.

Willow Lantern Making Workshop

Tuesday 22 and Thursday 24 October, 10:30am and 12:30pm; Saturday 26 October, 10:30am and 3:00pm

Children and adults can come and make their own magical willow lantern to light up the Park as part of autumn festival week.

This can get messy so old clothes and apron are advised. Suitable for everyone five years and above.

Drop in event, no need to book.

 

Meeting Magical Mammals

Wednesday 23 October, 10am

Join a ranger for a short walk discovering the small mammals that live in the Park. You will have the chance to see voles, mice and shrews, as well as learn about their habitat, diet and how they prepare for winter hibernation.

Suitable for ages five and above. The route areas of long grass and scrub so is not suitable for pushchairs, buggies or wheelchairs. Appropriate footwear and clothing is required.

Bushcraft: Shelter Building

Thursday 24 October, 10:30am and 1:30pm

Learn the theory behind building a wild shelter, then put what you’ve learnt into practice as you have a go at making your own.

Suitable for children seven years and above only. Children must be accompanied, maximum two children per adult.

Tree Hunt and Broomsticks

Friday 25 October, 10:30am

The Nene Park witch has lost broomstick – venture through the park and help her to find it. Then build your very own broomstick to fly home on!

Willow Lantern Walk

Saturday 26 October, 4pm

Walk, scoot or skip your way along this magical walk around Lynch Lake. To help add to the magical atmosphere of this musical event, bring your own fairy lights, torches, and bells – and your lantern, if you went to the willow lantern making event earlier in the week.

Free event with no booking required.

 

Autumn Colour Walk

Sunday 27 October 10:30am and 1:30pm

Join Nene Park Visitor Warden Sophie for a walk around the Park. Take in the spectacular colours and find out about how the wildlife in the park is preparing for winter.

Meet at the Visitor Centre.

£2, book in advance.

 

Autumn Stories

Sunday 27 October, 10:30 and 11:30am and 1:30 and 2:30pm

Renowned local storyteller, writer and ecologist Malcolm Busby comes to Nene Park for an amazing day of incredible storytelling. The event includes sensory stories, natural narratives and ghastly tales about ghosts. Storytelling will take place both indoors and out so suitable clothing is required.

No booking required for this drop-in event but please arrive promptly for the start.

However you decide to spend your time at the Park, Lakeside and Ferry Meadows Café will be on hand throughout half-term to provide much needed refreshments – so pop in and see us!
