We all know that Christmas is the most magical time of the year, but did you know it’s also the most popular time of the year to get engaged?
That’s according to wedding planning website Bridebook, which says some 100,000 engagements occur over Christmas – 40% for the entire year.
Using historical data from the hundreds of thousands of couples who use the website and app, Bridebook is predicting peak proposal time this year will take place on the weekend of 21 and 22 December – an incredible 10% of all proposals annually.
Christmas is a natural fit for proposals. Most people are off from work around Christmas, so friends and family are all available to celebrate the special news. Meanwhile mulled wine, twinkly lights and cosy nights in set the perfect scene for a proposal, making it an innately romantic time of year.
So, what should you look out for if you think your partner is going to propose? There are a few tell-tale signs, according to Bridebook. Watch out for:
- Secret phone-calls and emails
- Special trips being planned
- A sudden interest in jewellery
