The sun and warm weather can often make summer parties some of the most memorable. However, organising an outdoors get together in the UK isn’t always straightforward. With that in mind we’ve come up with a few summer party planning tips which should help your get together to go without a hitch.
Don’t Rely on the Weather
The English weather is about as reliable as a witness statement from Pinocchio – one minute the temperature is soaring, the next the sun’s rays have been replaced with a rain. One of our top summer party planning tips is to always be prepared for a downpour even in summer. Let your guests know that the party will be going ahead whatever the weather, just so that there is no confusion. Also inform them that bringing waterproofs or an umbrella might be expedient. At Lakeside we can help to make this aspect of party planning a little easier for you. Our venue offers an outdoor balcony allowing you and your guests to enjoy with easy access to shelter should the rain start coming down.
The easiest way to keep your guests happy at a summer party is with a delicious barbecue. If you’re cooking your own you will need to let your guests know what time food is likely to be ready so that everyone can turn up when it’s hot. Ferry Meadows Country Park provides a number of permanent grill stands located by Coney Meadow Pond. These are free to use and do not need to be booked. You can also bring your own barbecue as long as they are off the ground and not placed directly on picnic tables or benches. Even better, let us cook it for you. We offer a delicious barbecue menu featuring grilled burgers and sausages as well as some mouth-watering vegetarian options. We cook all our food onsite using locally sourced ingredients. Prices start at £18.50 per person.
One of the beauties of hosting a summer party is that you can enjoy the great outdoors. Make the most of this extra room with some fun activities for you guests to get involved in. Green spaces are everywhere at Ferry Meadows, perfect for a spot of French cricket (external link: opens in new tab), croquet or Frisbee. If you want to get adventurous, our venue overlooks Gunwade Lake with easy access to the water. Here you can try all manner of water based activities, from sailing to windsurfing. Meanwhile, at nearby Overton Lake you can enjoy a pedalo ride or a boat trip.
Consider the Neighbours
One of the drawbacks of an outdoor party is that the noise from the get together can be difficult to contain. Laughter, chatter and, in particular, music can all unintentionally disturb the neighbours and others around – which can dampen the mood a little. At Lakeside you don’t have to worry about the decibel levels too much, our outdoor balcony offers plenty of privacy while inside we can provide music to keep the party spirit alive.
