As you probably already know, Ferry Meadows this year turns 40. The wonderful park, which we are lucky enough to call home, comprises 500 acres of lakes, woodland, grassland and meadows.

When the park opened back in 1968, there was quite some excitement surrounding it, and now, in its 40th year, the wildlife wonderland remains one of the most popular and loved attractions in Peterborough.

To mark its 40th birthday, Nene Park Trust, the charitable organisation that manages the park, is holding two weekend-long festivals at Ferry Meadows – and the celebrations kick off this weekend with the Ferry Meadows Cultural Festival.

When This weekend, 30th June – 1st July, 10am until 5pm

How much Free to enter but some activities may incur a cost

Ferry Meadows is, and has always been, a community park, welcoming visitors of all ages and backgrounds. The upcoming Cultural Festival celebrates this tradition of inclusion with a wide range of activities to suit all tastes and interests.

There will be family fun in the form of a teddy bears’ picnic, fairground rides and a children’s storyteller.

Meanwhile, a main stage on Coney Meadow will provide live music and entertainment, with choirs, orchestras and theatre groups among the acts performing.

Active activities include guided walks, an interactive music workshop and a pedal powered cinema – bringing a new meaning to the term motion picture.

There will also be plenty to eat, with food stalls, a farmers market and, of course, Lakeside Kitchen & Bar and Ferry Meadows Café all serving throughout the festival.

What’s more, the weather is set to be very pleasant this weekend, so everything is in place for an amazing outdoor festival.

Future Events

Ferry Meadows at 40 will feature a second celebratory weekend later this year, from 1st – 2nd September. Full details of this are coming soon, so we will keep you posted as and when they are released.

In the meantime, if you fancy getting better acquainted with the park, you can pick up a 40 things to do at Ferry Meadows booklet, available from Lakeside, Ferry Meadows Café and the Visitor Centre.

Activities include taking a swan pedalo ride, building a home for an animal and hunting for bugs. Those who manage to complete all 40 activities will be awarded with a commemorative certificate.
