British Food Fortnight is back!

The annual event celebrates the fabulous food and drink produced on our shores, as well supporting the people who grow, produce and sell it.

The two-week event takes place across the country every year on the last week of September and the first week of October, which this year falls between 21st September and 6th October.

Getting involved couldn’t be simpler – or tastier! All you have to do is eat British food. So, to whet your appetite, allow us to present to you a few of our finest British offerings – which includes vegetarian and vegan options.


Full English Breakfast (served till 12 noon)

Grasmere dry cured back bacon, Grasmere sausages, free range egg, Heinz baked beans, mushroom, slow roasted tomatoes and toasted buttered Hambleton tin loaf.

We also offer a delicious vegetarian alternative with free range egg, Heinz baked beans, slow roasted tomatoes, mushroom, spinach, hash brown, toasted buttered Hambleton tin loaf.

Food fact: in the UK 60% of people prefer ketchup with their full English, while 40% prefer brown sauce.


British Fish and Chips

Nene Valley beer battered fish with chips, mushy peas, and tartar sauce.

Food fact: over 250 million fish and chip meals are sold each year in the UK.


Super Food Salad

A fantastically healthy salad packed with seasonal veg, including curly kale, roasted heritage beets and butternut squash. This delicious dish is suitable for vegans and is gluten free.

Food fact: kale is a veritable powerhouse of nutrition. The green veg is a great source of protein (essential for building and repairing body tissues), vitamin A (boosts the immune and helps organ health) and vitamin K (great for blood and bones).


The Lakeside and Vegan Burgers

Hand pressed homemade 6oz Lincolnshire beef burger, mixed leaf salad and chips. We also offer a vegan alternative that comes with a salad garnish and crisps.

Food fact: the Oxford English Dictionary lists the first use of hamburger as appearing in 1889.


Locally sourced

At Lakeside, wherever possible, we try to source all of our food from local British suppliers.

All of our meat comes from Market Deeping butchers Grasmere, and our bread is delivered fresh from Oakham-based Hambleton Bakery.

We use dairy products from Peterborough Dairy and drinking water from Cambridgeshire Water. Watergull Apple Juice, meanwhile, is an East Anglian company that provides us with our delicious apple juice.
